nflation or Gouging?
Gas prices are up, that’s a fact. But why? Here are some other facts surrounding oil and gas prices:
In 2021, Exxon Mobil, Shell, Chevron, and BP had the highest profits in seven years. Guess what? We’re seeing the highest gas prices in seven years. Coincidence?
Major oil companies have 9,000 drilling leases in the United States that they are doing nothing with. Gee, maybe they want a shortage of oil so they can continue to raise prices and fill up their own financial tanks?
The Keystone Pipeline is not an oil field; it’s a pipe. It wasn’t scheduled to open until 2023. It’s a Canadian project. The oil that is transported through the pipeline is mostly meant for China, not the U.S. Despite what some on the Right keep erroneously saying, Keystone’s stoppage has nothing to do with rising oil prices. Oh, and there are other pipelines; stopping Keystone hasn’t stopped the flow of tar sands oil.
Maybe all the people complaining that “Biden raised gas prices” should ask oil companies why they won’t drill on their leased lands and why they are continuing to raise gas prices, even when they are earning record profits. They should also get their facts straight.
